The Real McCoy at last!

This little stove really is the real deal.Four small metal legs unfold to provide a very stable, low to the ground cooking platform that's also suitably grippy to prevent your pans sliding off and splashing boiling water everywhere. It has it's own built in one-push igniter, with a nice braided metal hose to connect up to the gas canister. Level of heat is controlled with excellent accuracy with the knob on top of the gas connector and there is also a flexible, folding wind shield/heat reflector supplied. Your pans also sit close to the flame so your cooking time has the minimum of interruption from drafts whilst maintaining maximum cooking efficiency. The gas canisters are relatively cheap, last a long time and can be purchased anywhere.The stove is very nicely made from ultra light weight quality metal and hardly takes up any space once it's folded back up and stuffed into it's little storage bag which is also included.I recently needed to purchase an extra stove, but rather than discard my single one and buy a larger, cumbersome and heavy weight two burner cooker (which in my experience are generally much poorer quality and far less efficient, sometimes only operating from their own hard to obtain, expensive fuels), I bought another of these Primus single stoves and I'm absolutely delighted with them both.No nonsense and very reliable, I think these stoves are worth their weight in gold and a cut above any of the other rubbish on offer.

This is my second primus stove, first one did not stand up to being run over by a 4x4!!! I had no hesitation in buying a replacenet as this stove ticks all the boxes. the seller was top notch and should i need anything else i will return to this seller for a quality product and quick delivery

Fantastic Big Little stove

This stove is superb - it just worksThe gas is easily availale in allsorts of sizes from any camping shop. The cannisters last for ages. The stove is very hot and boils water very quickly. The legs are wide, the stove sits low and is very stable. It packs up very neatly. The construction is good - materials, design and build all seem to be high quality. If you want a small stove you just get out and use and pack up and put away and no faffing about then this is the stove for you. I wondered about the price but it is well worth it.

Just what was required

Last time we set up camp, as I wrestled to snap metal cross-pieces underneath mesh shelves which kept going astray underneath the frame, I made A Solemn Vow that I would NEVER attempt this again to the detriment of my temper; and so began a quest to find a new camp kitchen after fifteen or so years of sweat and tears. I decided on this one and have to say that it is just what was required. It is light and easy to handle, versatile (side work-tops can be left folded down if space is limited) and SO simple to set up I could kick myself! The whole unit is stable, and I wasn't interested in a fabric cupboard as my camp kitchen stays outside under the awning where the rain can blow in. It came in it's own carry bag and I am very pleased with it. A word of warning. I almost bought a cheaper model until I realised that, unlike this one, it did not include a windshield in the price. Check to make sure it isn't listed as an optional extra.

Indespensable for world campers

This is one of the most useful pieces of camping kit I possess. My heating and lighting equipment all requires the "Coleman C 500 Butane Propane Resealable Gas Cartridge" screw-in style cartridges which unfortunately can be difficult to come by in some more remote areas ( which is usually where you run out of gas). This little converter is very light, can be easily thrown into the car and is there when you need to magically transform an 190G piercable cartridge (readily available) into a pseudo-resealable screw on one.Ingenious !!!!!!

Brilliant cooker and grill

We bought this cooker after a long long look at all the others on Amazon and other sites, and are pleased we did so. The grill option is great. It's easy to use, and really does 'grill healthily' as it claims, as the fat from the sausages and bacon etc actually does fall through to the pan underneath. As you have put water into this bottom pan (as they tell you to do), it makes it very easy to wash afterwards. I highly reccommend the carry bag for this grill. It's nice and big and you can store all your bits such as matches, the booklet, the gas head thing etc - very useful. One thing - when you are cooking up your nice grilled breakfast (and toast too - it does 'campfire' style toast which is my favourite), you will suddenly realize that you need a cup of tea! But you're using the grill for grilling, and the grill takes up both rings of the stove!! We are therefore planning to buy another, smaller stove to deal with this problem - then we can be grilling and making tea or cooking something else at the same time. I think it's worth it as the grill is so fantastic - I wouldn't be without it. We took this stove to a pebble beach near our campsite, and had burgers and sausages for all the family, fab. We then also took it to a sandy beach the next day, but this I don't reccommend as the sand gets in everywhere, and is harder to clean off the stove once you get home. I am hoping to be able to buy the 'wind-flaps' for the sides of the stove, as there are slots for these but they weren't included. Not that we needed them this holiday, but might for the next one. All in all, a great stove.

Great Camping Cooking Solution

A substantial camping stove that can be set up as a standard two-burner stove or a single grill top for barbeque cooking - brilliant! We only need take the camping kitchen for all our cooking needs on a camping holiday.I'd recommend the Kitchen Extra version of this stove if you have the space and don't mind the extra weight - the extra version comes with legs, storage space and side flaps for resting things on or using as windbreaks to protect the burners.

Camping Gaz Kitchen Grill Stove

Havn't used a camping cooker for at least 20years - this one is great,easy to use and the grill option turns it into a barbeque,which heats up on only 4mins. Brilliant. We are thinking about buying the legs annd carrying case for it. Great value for money - on other sites about £40 more.

I love it. When it first come though the post, i just had to give it ago, sausage and egg sandwich, it cooked the thick sausages well and i could cook the eggs with out splitting them. The legs are a bit awkward to remove, the legs clip in place so you have to take everything apart (but thats not as bad as it sounds and you can do it quite quick anyway). Overall i think this is a well made product and easily worth the cost.

Great for the beach - but its not really a BBQ!

Wanted something that we could take away from the house, was easy to use, and would be more controllable than the throw away disposable BBQ's.Its good, very compact, assembles and disassembles very easily (although once the legs are in they are a job to get back out - a liberal application of grease will make them easier to get on and off, as they need to come off to go back in the supplied bag) - we ended up resting the unit on the cylinder. Good design of bag - takes cylinder too.As with most Campingaz products, its of good quality - and the attach and detach of the cylinder is very easy.Cooking area is a little small - and would be better if the edge had more of a 'lip' on it to prevent sausages etc from rolling off.Heat generated is very good, and distrbutes evenly around the griddle.Don't forget to put water in the base - helps stop any fat from making too much of a mess.Price I would say - expensive for this type of unit - think you're paying more for the design.

This is a brilliant camping gaget. Unfortunately the automatic ignition switch didn't work properly so I had to return it ,but the replacement works perfectly. Great for grilling bacon and the hot plate for cooking tomato and eggs etc. All the fat collects in the water container which makes cleaning easy and because the hot plate has a non stick coating this is also easy to clean. Take the plate off and use for boiling a kettle. Packs easily in the pouch with a space for the gaz. Went to Cambridge music festival this year and used this cooker every morning to cook breakfast. Fantastic !

Great value for money camping stove cookset

I really liked the look of the Trangia cooksets but didn't feel I could justify spending £50 plus in case my re-awakened enthusiasm for the great outdoors did not last. At £23 including delivery the Gelert Phoenix 7 cookset looked like a good compromise solution.(Edit 17/04/2012. Now listed at £39.99. At that price I'd hunt about for a discounted Trangia set)What you get:Alcohol burner with screw on, O ring sealed cap, and simmer ring - As mentioned in another review very much like the Esbit alcohol burnerLower and upper windshield / potstand1.7 litre pot1.4 litre potkettleFrying pan / lid (The claimed 23cm diameter is incorrect see below)pot gripPacking strapNylon mesh bagWhat wasn't included was any instructions.Quality and Sizes:Overall the kit seems of reasonable quality given the price. One area of concern is the lack of deburring of the lower windshield, particularly around the burner mounting hole where the burr, running half the circumference of the hole, was accessible and sharp enough to cut fingers. Easily sorted but check your set over before use.The pots are, as claimed, 1.7 and 1.4 litres (brim full). both have a rolled edge at the rim and are perfectly servicable.The kettle, when level, will hold 600ml if filled to just below the spout, 800ml maximum. A fill of 500ml when used in anger seems realistic.The frying pan, despite being claimed at 23cm diameter is, in fact, only 21.5cm at the outside diameter of the flanged edge. The cooking surface of the pan is 19.5cm diameter so if, like me, you decide to supplement this kit with a Trangia Multidisc , go for the 18cm version if you want to stow it inside the pan. See here Trangia Multi Disc for 27 Series Storm Cookers (18 cm)The pot grip holds the pots and pan securely and, against expectation, applying an excessively firm "squeeze" didn't damage the aluminium pivot pin.The packing strap has a plastic clasp which grips surprisingly well and the whole lot (including 21cm Trangia Multidisc) stows into the nylon mesh bag.In Use:I've only tried the set out at home so far but it all goes together easily enough.On first firing the stove seemed to take a long time to "bloom" and was not burning evenly. After it had cooled down I checked the burner holes were not blocked using a small panel pin and tried again. Much better in both terms of bloom time and evenness of flame.Whilst the pot supports are perfectly servicable the pots, kettle and pan do not sit flat in them without careful placement but this is only a minor gripe.Sooting of the underside pots was easily washed off but adding 10% water to the meths (as advised by Trangia) stops the sooting happening at all.Whilst seasoning the frying pan I could see the heat was concentrated in the central 9cm of the pan but did get it smoking hot across the whole cooking surface.Conclusion:For:An excellent value copy of a classic cookset which is perfectly serviceable and I would expect to last me a few seasons before paying the extra to buy an original Trangia set.Against:Needs a little fettling prior to use.The frying pan is not the size claimed

Trangia clone, not Trangia quality in some areas.

Guess who copied the smaller Trangia kit. As a clone, it is actually rather good. The spirit burner doesn't run as hot or as efficiently as a Trangia,but there isn't much in it.Where it really shows is in the pot supports and snap ring. The supports are stiff in operation, bend easily and seem to want to pop the snap ring out when they are folded out to accommodate the frying pan or when repacking. This means your pots/kettle always seem a bit wonky. It doesn't affect the usage but gives a second division feel in use, as does the pot gripper.It all works though; packs easily and can accommodate a fold-a-cup, spork and firesteel or peanut lighter. Mate it up with a genuine Trangia fuel bottle; they are the best you can get, and you have a very functional cooking system for two people.The Phoenix can also use the gas converter and the multi-fuel, giving you a year round, all weather system. For those that doubt these systems, whether Gelert or Trangia, they're not called storm cookers for nothing. Shy of a force 10 gale,you don't need additional windshields; they're stable as a rock and as reliable.Trangia are the best. This is a very affordable, very capable alternative and you won't regret buying it. Remember, you are buying a complete year round capable system for less than the price of some fancy-pants burners. You can have your morning brew before some of the flashier systems have even primed!Nothing beats meths for sloooow simmering jasmine rice, pilau, pasta etc and in low simmer, you'll get 45 minutes from one fill. Free yourselves from the tyranny of the cup-a-soup and pot noodle and actually cook outdoors!

Does exactly what I need it to do for an excellent price, local camping shop was £38. Kettle - good, half full (2 mugs of tea) approx 7 minutes. Have cooked full breakfast in fry pan, eggs,toms,mushrooms,potato cake and the bacon was nice and crispy. Other pots are of good size but have not used yet. Seems to be good burn time on stove and you do find with time how much meths you need to use for doing specific tasks. Saying that if you do fill with too much, allow to cool and then screw cap on to seal chamber and use again later.To sum up, this seems to be an unbeatable price for a piece of kit that will come in very,very handy......Oh by the way the fry pan was in quite a mess after cooking and it washed up like new.....
